Marriage Equity and Christianity in a Secular Democracy under the Rule of Law

in Parish News, marriage, progressive christians, same sex marriage, secular

I have created some controversy with my public stand in support of marriage equity. I hope that this paper may clarify my views enabling both my supporters and detractors to come to a deeper understanding of the issues.

My primary concern is not one of marriage equity; this is simply the presenting issue. I want, however, to stress the importance of this matter in the terms of human dignity and justice.

The abiding concern is one of the relationships of people of faith with the secular state.

How can we respond to the carbon tax?

in Parish News, carbon tax, paradigm, video

To even begin to struggle with that question we need to understand something of human paradigms or modes of being.

There have been four main modes of being in western history, beginning with the family of tribal paradigm. This began with the dawning of human civilization and continued through to about the fourth century.

Special General Meeting for 17th April 2011

in Parish News, bulletin, notice, special

In all the kafuffle at the AGM (with the Bishop there and I had also been at the hospital since 4am) we forgot to appoint the Auditor.

So as a formality we need an Special General Meeting. This will be held at 9am Sunday 17th April. No need for people to come from St John's or Mangrove, the motion will simply be that: W T Martin and Associates be appointed as the Parish auditors for the year 2011.

Praying with Queensland

in Parish News, prayers, Queensland Floods, support

Please join us in Christ Church at 9.00am this Sunday as we join our hearts to the people whose lives have been devistated by the floods. Two former priests of the parish, Penny and Jonathan are now working in Toowoomba and while they are both safe and well, they can use all the prayerful support they can get. There will also be an opportunity to make a donation that they can pass on directly to the people most in need.
